March 1stNational Fruit Compote Day! Compote is French for “mixture” and has a long French history! A compote is a dessert made of pieces of fruit in sugar syrup, cooked in water and seasonings. The reasoning: the French believed that fruit cooled in sugar syrup balanced out the effects of humidity on the body. Initially served as a warm snack, during the Renaissance, it was chilled and served after dinner. Yum!

March 2ndNational Read Across America Day – falling on Dr. Seuss’ birthday this year! What a celebration! Kangaroo Kids will be hosting special events during the first week of March to celebrate. One of our favorite themes to celebrate with is the Cat in the Hat! Try making Cat in The Hat Birthday Hash Browns, to go with your green eggs and ham, or Cat in the Hat Fruit Kabobs! We even have Cat in the Hat Activities for the whole week!

March 3rdHappy National Anthem Day! The United States of America adopted “The Star Spangled Banner” as our national anthem in 1889! Did you know the Star Spangled Banner was adopted from a poem? Francis Scott Key, the poem’s author, served in the army during the War of 1812. After a long night of battle during the war, he penned the lyrics to the song. Do you know how many verses make up the Star-Spangled Banner? It’s FOUR! I had no idea! It is an amazing story highlighting a battle during The War of 1812!

March 6thNational Oreo Cookie Day – what a treat! At Kangaroo Kids also use the Oreo cookie as a reminder of positive communications! Always start and end with the positive just like the top and bottom of an Oreo! In honor of National Oreo Day, try making this No Bake Oreo Cake while talking about patterning! Can you find the pattern in an Oreo?!

March 3rd-7th – Donuts for Dad @ 9:30am-10:30am at Kangaroo Kids. See your child’s teacher for specific day.

March 7thNational Cereal Day! Do you remember as a child reading your favorite cereal box or waiting to see who would be lucky enough to get the prize in the box? Cereal has come a long way since its beginning in 1854 thanks to Dr. Kellogg! Can you guess how many boxes of cereal are sold each year? On National Cereal Day grab a box, a bowl, some milk, and fruit for an easy dinner!

Kangaroo Kids School Wide Picture Day will be the week of March 10th-12th.

March 14thNational Pi Day! What do you know about Pi? Not to be confused with Pie! Pi is the ratio between the circumference of a circle and it’s diameter. While the idea of Pi has been known for nearly 4000 years, accurately calculating it has been something of slightly more recent mathematical development!

March 14thLearn About Butterflies Day! Can you name the four parts of a butterfly’s life cycle? Egg, larva, pupa, and adult! What a great day to begin this study! On Learn About Butterflies Day, surprise your little love bugs with a creative Butterfly snack! It’s versatile enough so you can individualize each snack! Don’t forget to visit Kangaroo Kids’ butterfly garden and schoolwide butterfly release!

March 17th Patrick’s Day is held in observance of the death of St. Patrick, the Patron Saint of Ireland! “May the wind always be at your back and the sunshine warmly on your face.” Looking for fun St. Patrick’s activities? Try these 6 Fun Activities, and or learn about the Myths of St. Patrick’s Day!  Want to make your own Leprechaun? All you need is some paper, paint and a plastic fork! But don’t forget to try out a Leprechaun trap! But be careful – they’re quick and tricky! Join Kangaroo Kids as we celebrate the holiday with St. Patrick’s parties, schoolwide wear GREEN day, and try making our very own Leprechaun traps!

March 19thNational Let’s Laugh Day! Brought to you this year by Laffy Taffy; the candy that has been bringing you and your family little bites of joy with jokes on every wrapper since 1971! Let’s Laugh Day is a chance to have a chuckle with the ones you love! Studies have shown that laughter may boost your immune system, relieve tension, and help you relax.

March 20thHappy First Day of Spring! Today marks the end of winter and brings us longer, sunnier, days! Looking for Spring activities? Don’t miss out on heading to a Rita’s near you for free Italian ice!

March 20thNational Ravioli Day! What is your favorite ravioli filling – cheese, meat, lobster? Help make this easy Baked Ravioli dinner! You just need a few ingredients, an apron, and chef’s hat to whip up some yummy goodness!

March 23rdNational Chip and Dip Day! There are dozens of dips to compliment your favorite chips! Head to the store, grab some veggies, and try this healthy, fresh, Salsa dip! Yum!

March 26th – “The more that you read, the more you will know. The more that you learn, the more places you’ll go!” – Dr. Seuss. Kangaroo Kids will be Closed for an In-Service Day!

March 27thNational Joe Day! On this silly day, you can call yourself Joe, even if for only 1 day! National Joe Day also encourages everyone to enjoy a cup of joe with friends and family!

March 30thNational Manatee Appreciation Day! These sea cows are considered large and graceful herbivores that have been on the endangered species list since 1967. On the last Wednesday in March, we get to appreciate the calm herbivore who spends their days eating, sleeping, and traveling! Can you make a manatee? Or even better, try to be a manatee for the day?

March 31stNational Crayon Day! Can you guess how many crayons Crayola makes a year? Go check out the facts and attractions at the Crayola Factory in PA! Have broken crayons and wondering what to do with them? How about trying out these cookie cutter crayon crafts?

April 7th – 11thWeek of the Young Child! According to the NAEYC website, “The Week of the Young Child” is a time to ‘recognize that children’s opportunities are our responsibilities, and to recommit ourselves to ensuring that each and every child experiences the type of early environment—at home, at childcare, at school, and in the community’.
